Saturday was a bit of a dream for both Matt and myself….Chris Velan! Live in Muskoka! Great friends! The Sunday ride was the cherry on top! I think Matt’s FB post said it best “beers, buddies, biking AND Chris Velan…. I am a bit like a giddy school girl”. Fall is one of my favourite times to ride, the colours are amazing, the temperatures cooler ( a bit warmer than this Saturday is preferable). I am always looking for a great way to eat after a ride and found this great recipe(thanks Gord!) A great bar with protein  to rebuild for the next ride.

Kumat Bars

• 4 cups puffed rice(kumat)
• 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
• 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
• 1 cup cransins
• 1/4 cup flax seeds

mix and set aside.

• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup tahini
• 1/2 cup honey

bring to a boil, pour over dry mix and press into greased 13×9 pan. Let stand for 1hour before cutting. Remember this is just a guide…you can throw all kinds of healthy fun things into this bar. They are delicious and healthy! What a combo!

For those of you who know us at The Bike Shop in Gravenhurst, there’s another passion besides the bicycle. Skijoring is a great way to get out and enjoy winter with your pet. What is skijoring? A sport in which a cross-country skier is attached by harnesses to one or more dogs. The sport is growing in intrest. We plan to make it larger as we scheduled 4 days of skijoring for Arrowhead Provincial Park in Huntsville. January 16th, February 6th, March 13th, and April 3rd. Times are from 10am to 3pm. For those with or without dogs are welcome to come out and join in the fun at Arrowhead. If you don’t have the equipment we’ll have gear to borrow. Instruction is available to teach you and your dog the best way to start skijoring.

It was but a week ago when I arrived to the store to find a lonely Donnie leaning against the bike bar with a long face. All it took to put a smile on that face was a FAT bike. A Surly Pugsley. Pretty neat, a bike that will conquer anything, snow, sand, moss, and a long faced fella.
